How to judge a small home

The record works the same way: a licensing survey with correction orders or a substantiated complaint lowers the score, and the score is per bed, so one finding in a 5-bed home weighs what thirty would in a 150-bed community. Beyond the record, ask who the licensed nurse is and how often they are physically present, what the overnight staffing is, and what happens if a resident's needs rise past what the home is licensed to give. Most small homes here are nurse-owned; the answer is often the owner.
